I am a huge dog lover, and would have ten dogs if I could. But, I am so fortunate to have my one and only Romeo. A little more than three years ago, while I was still attending college at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, I would spend some weekends visiting the humane societies. I would walk some of the dogs, but after awhile I really wanted to take one home. I really wanted to find a dog that interacted with me, and that had a wonderful personality and a burst of energy. On my second day of looking, I saw this little boarder collie/German Shepherd hanging from the neck of another dog in his kennel (Romeo was 3 months at the time, so he did not weigh much). I had to meet this little guy, and instantly I fell in love. This little guy was mischievous, smart, energetic, loyal, and wanting to be my friend.
It was amazing how quickly he picked up on tricks and how quickly his vocabulary grew! Did you know that on average, a border collie has a vocabulary of 1000 words!! Incredible, and I see it everyday.. We have to go around the house spelling out words just so he doesn’t know what we are saying. Romeo has caught onto the words milk, play, water, ball, freeze, wait, mail, shoes, to name a few. The most important word that he has caught onto, is hug. Romeo can sense emotion, and knows exactly when we are sad or when we are happy. If you ask him to give you a hug, he will crawl over and sit right in your lap. He is the best friend I could ever have. Dogs are so precious, and I am so blessed to be able to have such an amazing dog, an amazing friend… Oh and best part, he loves the camera 😉
