I have wanted to write this blog post even before Chloe arrived, but I figured lets just wait until she arrives. Well she has been here a month now and there are definitely a few things that work so so great for me and my baby! Obviously every single baby is different, I know right! Why can’t every single baby have the same routines and products that work for them?!
Being a new mom, you register for just about everything because you have no idea what you actually NEED. It was helpful to have friends and family help determine what I really needed to put on the registry, but now that I actually get to live as a mom, I can see what actually does work for ME. I hope these short list helps you out as well!
Please feel free to share in the comments anything that does or does not work for you!
Okay so there are A LOT of swaddles out there, and there are a lot of rules out there for how to properly swaddle your baby. The new rule is, hands out, to help prevent SIDS. To be honest, sometimes you just HAVE to swaddle those crazy hands in to help calm your baby. As Chloe begins to learn to put herself to sleep, I haven’t been swaddling her hands in, but in the beginning it was needed. Okay, anyway, the best swaddle I found, was this Bamboo Swaddle. It is large enough to wrap comfortably around your baby, yet so light weight that it is breathable. I use it for more than just a swaddle, I use it for a breastfeeding cover and a light blanket to cover Chloe’s car seat when we travel (since it is so breathable).
Okay this product is helpful WHILE you are pregnant, and even after. I was adamant on trying to prevent those stretch marks. Now this may not work for everyone, but it definitely worked for me. I lathered this Hempz Herbal Body Moisturizer all over my belly morning and night. I think I went through 3 bottles prior to giving birth. I only got a small stretch mark over my left hip, but nothing on my belly! I’m giving credit to this moisturizer but I also have to give credit to all of the stretching I did! Oh, I also use this moisturizer post pregnancy to help bring back my belly! Giver a try!
Another one of those debats, should you give one to your baby or shouldn’t you, well Brent and I were all for it, of course we don’t want to use it if we don’t have to, simply to calm her down. The WubbaNub Pacifier is great because it has something for her to “hold” on to, and if it pops out, it doesn’t go far. I also found that this pacifier she seems to pacify better on then others.. is that possible 😀
If you plan to nurse, it is SO nice to have under garments that will make it easier to nurse while hiding what you can, at least in my case. This nursing cami is my FAVORITE. It comes in a pack of three, of whatever colors you want, it fits nice, and wears perfectly under my favorite tops!
5. Baby WrapOnce you have a baby, getting around just isn’t the same anymore, so it is so nice to find ways to carry your baby while still getting things done. Baby wraps are perfect for that! The Solly Baby Wrap is a really awesome choice, you can wrap your baby up tight and still work hands free! **They have great tutorials!**
6. Sound Machine
If your baby is anything like mine, they will love sound, sound of sweet music, or the sound of what sounds like your womb. I highly recommending adding a sound machine to your baby registry, I have this one, and I LOVE it. I can clip it to anything and it come with a couple different sound options!
7. Nipple Cream!!
Oh, moms, you will need this if you are nursing. Your doctor may proscribe another option, but I used this one all the time, and it makes a world of a difference!
8. Baby Head Thermometer
Unfortunately my baby got sick at 3 weeks with a little cold, but I wanted to watch her carefully to make sure it didn’t get worse, so I used a head thermometer to tell me if she was or wasn’t running a fever (she wasn’t thank goodness). The head thermometer eases my mind, it is easy to use and gives you an exact reading quickly! Consider this one.
